On behalf of the Boyd County Board of Education, it is my honor to welcome our students and families to the 2019-2020 school year.
Throughout the summer, our outstanding teachers and classified staff have spent numerous hours in professional learning encompassing effective instructional strategies, school safety, and student needs. This includes Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures, Senate Bill 1 overview, and Ruby Payne’s Emotional Poverty Training. Our exceptional maintenance, custodial, food service and Early Childhood Academy teams will complete the transition from our four previous Early Childhood Learning Centers to our consolidated Early Childhood Academy by the end of August. The ECA project, along with a host of other projects at each of our schools, has kept our maintenance and custodial staff extremely busy throughout the summer months. We are also excited to begin construction on phase III of Boyd County High School. This project will include a facilities building and athletic field. This project will allow for multiple sports and extracurricular activities to have a place to play and practice.
The most meaningful factor to help students be successful is the involvement of their parents/guardians. To help your child meet their goals, we need your participation. Whether it be through attending parent-teacher conferences, volunteering in your child's school, reinforcing the importance of on-time school attendance, appropriate behavior, class participation, and/or completion of schoolwork. Thank you in advance for all you do to support our schools.
As the start of school is right around the corner, let me remind you of the increased traffic around school zones and bus routes. Our outstanding Transportation Department is ready to serve your child with a friendly pick-up and drop-off every day. We appreciate your patience and caution to keep buses, employees, fellow parents, and student drivers safe.
On behalf of the BCPS Board of Education and the team members of Boyd County Public Schools, I wish you the best during the 2019-2020 school year.
