August 26, 2022
Dear BCPS Families,
On behalf of the Boyd County Board of Education, it is my honor to welcome our students and their families to the 2022-2023 school year. The first day of school for students is Wednesday, August 31. School offices are open and staff members are ready to assist you with anything your family might need to start the new school year.
This summer, our wonderful teachers and staff have spent numerous hours in meetings and workshops learning about effective instructional strategies and school safety. This includes a variety of topics presented during the District Conference, working with our state standards, and effectively using Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures with students. Our outstanding maintenance and custodial teams have completed a host of projects at each of our schools. Progress continues on the design phase of our new Career and Technical Education Center and Cannonsburg remodel. We anticipate breaking ground on these projects in late spring of 2023.
We continue to work closely with local law enforcement and first responders to keep our schools safe. This partnership has resulted in the completion of an intruder safety drill at Catlettsburg Elementary, upcoming situational awareness training for staff, and other trainings involving school safety. We are thankful to the Boyd County Fiscal Court, Boyd County Sheriff’s Department, Catlettsburg Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Boyd County Emergency Management, King’s Daughters Medical Center, and all of our local fire departments for their expertise and service to our district. Because of these partnerships, we are well prepared and excited for a successful new school year.
The most meaningful influence to help students be successful is engaged parents. To help your children meet their goals, we need your involvement, whether it be through attending parent-teacher conferences, volunteering in your child's school, or reinforcing the importance of on-time school attendance, appropriate behavior, class participation, and completion of schoolwork.
The start of the school year comes with increased traffic around school zones. We appreciate your patience and caution to keep buses, employees, fellow parents, and student drivers safe. On behalf of the team members of BCPS, I wish you the best during the 22-23 school year. Thank you for your support.
