On behalf of the Boyd County Board of Education, it is my honor to welcome our students and their families to the 2018-2019 school year.
Over the summer, our wonderful teachers spent numerous hours in professional development opportunities learning about effective instructional strategies and school safety. This includes Literacy and Math Design Collaborative and Kagen Cooperative Learning Structures. Our outstanding maintenance and custodial teams completed a host of projects at each of our schools. Progress continues on the anticipated winter Preschool move to the Heritage Building and we will be opening a new Alternative School in partnership with The Ramey Estep Home this fall.
We continue to work closely with local law enforcement and first responders to keep our schools safe. This partnership has resulted in the completion of an intruder safety drill at Boyd County High School in July that resulted in data to improve the safety of our school district. In the next month, we anticipate the implementation of a safe-school helpline, continued on-site drills and training, and additional school resource officers in our buildings. We are thankful to the Boyd County Fiscal Court, Boyd County Sheriff’s Department, Catlettsburg Police Department, Kentucky State Police, Ashland Police Department, Boyd County Emergency Management, Kings Daughters Hospital, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital and all of our local fire departments for their expertise and service to our district. Because of these partnerships, we are well prepared..
The most meaningful factor to help students be successful is the concern, participation, and involvement of their parents. To help your children meet their goals, we need your involvement, whether it be through attending parent-teacher conferences, volunteering in your child's school, or most importantly, reinforcing the importance of on-time school attendance, appropriate behavior and class participation, and completion of schoolwork. Thank you for all that you do to support our schools.
Please be aware of the increased traffic around school zones. We appreciate your patience and caution to keep buses, employees, fellow parents, and student drivers safe.
On behalf of the team members of Boyd County Public Schools, I wish you the best school year possible.
