Boyd County Board of Education Fills Vacant Seat

The Boyd County Board of Education appointed a new member to fill the vacancy left after the Board accepted Mindy Stanley’s resignation at the September 27, 2022 Board meeting.

The School board, in compliance with KRS 160.190, is allowed to choose a replacement member by majority vote of the remaining members within sixty days after the vacancy occurs.  There was one applicant, Michael G. Blankenship, who the Board approved appointment to the seat in their regular meeting November 15, 2022.

Mr. Blankenship currently serves as Pastor of Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in Catlettsburg, an active community member, served as a member of the Catlettsburg Elementary Site-Based Decision-Making Council, actively involved in the Family Resource Center backpack program at Catlettsburg Elementary, and father of two, one child graduated from Boyd County High and one child currently attends Boyd County Public Schools.

Mr. Blankenship said “I feel strongly that providing a high quality education and guidance to children makes our communities and country stronger.  I wish to do what I can as a father, community leader and board member to ensure our children have a solid foundation to build their lives on and help our area become stronger too.”

Blankenship’s appointment will fill the Division 2 vacant seat of Stanley’s term that will expire December 31, 2022.  Mr. Blankenship won the November 2022 general election for the seat and will serve a four-year term to begin January 1, 2023, as per KRS 160.190(4).
