August 20, 2021
Dear Boyd County Public Schools Families,
The team members of Boyd County Public Schools are excited to welcome back our students for the 2021-2022 school year. All of our team members have been working extremely hard to make the return to school as normal as possible. Please be aware that along with Governor Beshear’s school mask requirement, the Kentucky Board of Education passed an emergency regulation (702 KAR 1:195E) last week, which requires all individuals inside public school facilities to wear a face covering. This includes students, staff, and visitors. As a school district, we are required by law to follow this regulation, just as we would any other regulation.
Now that Governor Beshear and the Kentucky Board of Education have made these decisions, we must refocus on what is best for our children, which is providing a safe and excellent education for every child. I encourage you not to let the mask issue divide our schools and community like it has in other parts of the Commonwealth and country. Keep in mind that we are all simply trying to do our jobs and follow a set of rules given to us by our governing bodies. Please continue to be supportive of our students and staff as we deliver a quality education to all of our BCPS students.
Additionally, district leadership is currently looking into the potential of implementing a full-time digital learning option for a limited number of students. This option would come with very strict guidelines. Some of these guidelines include (but are not limited to) a treating doctor’s statement of need, at least six hours of login time per day, and required attendance to scheduled online meetings with the student’s teacher(s). I will have more information for you on this possibility in the upcoming days.
School begins for students on August 26, 2021. I can’t wait to see our kiddos as they enter our school buildings ready to learn. The first day of school is truly one of the best days of the year for everyone.
Enjoy the weekend and stay safe! We will see you bright and early on Thursday, August 26th.
