Kentucky Senate Bill 128 has been approved by both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Beshear. This bill, also referred to as the “do-over” bill, allows K-12 students currently enrolled in Kentucky public or non-public schools to request to use the 2021-2022 school year as a “supplemental year.”
KDE released guidance for schools on Monday, April 5th, and Commissioner Glass plans to meet with superintendents on Tuesday, April 13th, to review the guidance with school district leaders.
I know you may have many questions about this law. Our district plans to review the guidance document over the next several days and listen to the Commissioner’s comments next Tuesday. Later next week, our district will be releasing detailed information via IC Caller concerning our specific plans for the Supplemental School Year Program. At that time, we will also release accompanying forms that will need to be completed and returned to your child’s school by May 1, 2021, if you choose for your child to participate in the Supplemental School Year Program.
If the Supplemental School Year Program is something you may be interested in for your child, please be watching for more information next Wednesday or Thursday.
