Superintendent Letter to BCPS Families January 29, 2021

Dear Boyd County Public Schools Families,

Thank you for supporting our students, teachers, staff, and each other as we work together in educating our children.  As we move forward, I want to communicate our school schedule with you. Our current plans are to begin this schedule on Monday, February 1st, and continue with this schedule until further notice.

Boyd County Middle School and Boyd County High School

  • BCHS and BCMS will continue to be on an A/B hybrid schedule.  All students, who have chosen the traditional (in-person) option for second semester, will attend school on their designated days (see below).  Days they are not scheduled to attend in-person classes will be NTI days.
  • BCHS students-Monday/Tuesday (A-L) Wednesday (NTI) Thursday/Friday (M-Z). Doors open at 8:00 a.m.  The tardy bell will ring at 8:15 a.m.  
  • BCMS students-Monday/Tuesday (A-J) Wednesday (NTI) Thursday/Friday (K-Z). Doors open at 7:45 a.m.  The tardy bell will ring at 8:25 a.m.
  • Please contact your child’s school if you have questions about your child’s designated A/B schedule or need to adjust your child’s designated A/B schedule, due to family group scheduling.
  • Virtual Academy students will continue on the virtual academy platform until the end of the school year.

 

Early Childhood Academy and All Elementary Schools

  • ECA and all elementary schools will continue to be on an A/B hybrid schedule.
  • All in-person option students will attend school on Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday.
  • The days your child is not in the building will be NTI days.
  • Wednesday will continue to be an NTI day for all schools.
  • Virtual Academy students will continue on the virtual academy platform until the end of the school year.

 

Boyd County Virtual Academy

  • The BCVA option will continue throughout the remainder of the school year.
  • Second-semester assignments will load for middle and high school students between February 1st and 2nd.
  • Elementary assignments are already loaded in the Calvert platform, and students will be able to continue working as normal.

 

We are excited to have students in the buildings, but please continue to consider each day to be fluid. I want to caution parents/caregivers to have a plan in place in case of intermittent closures and/or changes to the above schedule, due to local/school COVID-19 cases, quarantine issues, lack of substitute teachers/bus drivers, etc.  I will try to make school closing decisions as early as possible. However, oftentimes, it is impossible to know the necessary information until early in the morning. Please have multiple plans/options in place if school is closed.   

Again, we are so happy to have the opportunity for more face-to-face time with our students.  We have missed them, and I know they have missed in-person learning and the interactions that take place with their peers and teachers. Let’s all do our part by following the proper Health Department protocols to keep everyone safe and healthy!
