Superintendent Letter to BCPS Families January 12, 2021

January 12, 2021

Dear Boyd County Public Schools Families,

Thank you for supporting our students, teachers, staff, and each other as we work together in educating our children.  As we move forward, I want to communicate our probable school schedule with you. Our current plans are to begin this schedule on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

Boyd County Middle School and Boyd County High School

  • January 19th through January 29th
  • Targeted academic enrichment will be provided to individual students on Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday.
  • BCMS and BCHS staff will be contacting, or have already contacted, students/parents of students who will benefit from academic enrichment over these two weeks.
  • All in-person option students, who do not need academic enrichment, will continue NTI during this time.
  • Beginning February 1, 2021, all in-person option students will return to BCHS and BCMS on the Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday A/B hybrid schedule.
  • Wednesday will continue to be an NTI day for all schools.
  • Please contact your child’s school if you have questions about your child’s designated A/B schedule or need to adjust your child’s designated A/B schedule, due to family group scheduling.

Early Childhood Academy and All Elementary Schools

  • January 19th until further notice
  • ECA and all elementary schools will be on an A/B hybrid schedule.
  • All in-person option students will attend school on Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday.
  • Wednesday will continue to be an NTI day for all schools.
  • Schools are in the process of contacting families concerning each child’s designated attendance days.
  • The days your child is not in the building will be NTI days.

Boyd County Virtual Academy

  • The BCVA option will continue throughout the remainder of the school year.

***Information regarding how to change your child’s learning option (traditional versus virtual academy) at the end of the semester, will be shared this week through Infinite Campus messaging, the district webpage, and our social media accounts.

I want to caution parents/caregivers to have a plan in place in case of intermittent closures and/or changes to the above schedule, due to possible local/school COVID-19 cases, quarantine issues, lack of substitute teachers/bus drivers, etc. As we move forward, please consider each day to be fluid. I will try to make school closing decisions as early as possible. However, oftentimes, it is impossible to know the necessary information until early in the morning. Please have a plan A, B, or C in place if school is closed.

Our goal has been, and continues to be, to have our students back in our school buildings. We miss them, and I know they miss the learning that takes place inside our wonderful schools. Let’s all do our part by following the proper Health Department protocols.

Sincerely,

signature

Superintendent
