January 6, 2021
Dear Boyd County Public Schools Families,
Thank you for continuing to support our students, teachers, staff, and each other as we navigate through these unprecedented times.
As a follow-up to my letter in December, I wanted you to be aware of our future instructional plans for BCPS.
Throughout the Christmas Break, our team has worked diligently on plans to return to some form of in-person instruction based upon the Governor’s new Executive Orders and Kentucky Department of Public Health guidelines. Our plan was to begin phasing students back into the buildings, focusing on specific grade levels and academic needs, on January 11, 2021. However, that plan cannot take place at this time, due to the increased COVID-19 rates reported by our local Health Department, increased COVID admissions at our local hospital, and increased COVID positive cases and quarantines in BCPS.
Based upon the above information, BCPS will continue the current Non-Traditional Instruction schedule and Virtual Academy schedule until at least January 19, 2021. Throughout the next two weeks, a possible return to in-person services will be evaluated and will be based upon several factors, including current COVID incidence rates, local hospital COVID admissions, and BCPS staffing. Please be aware, if in-person services take place, our schools may be on an AA/BB hybrid type of schedule and/or have a schedule that focuses on the specific academic needs of our students.
Our goal has been, and continues to be, to have our students back in our school buildings. We miss them, and I know they miss the learning that takes place inside our wonderful schools. Let’s all do our part by following all of the proper Health Department protocols.
I appreciate you greatly.
