Superintendent Letter to BCPS Families 11-12-2020

November 12, 2020

Dear BCPS Families,

As you know, over the last week, there continues to be a large spike in our community in positive COVID-19 cases. We have seen the following positive cases over the last seven days: 11/5 (31), 11/6 (30), 11/7 (31), 11/8 (27), 11/9 (8), 11/10 (39), 11/11 (24). As you may also know, the incidence rate map published today, is at 31.2.  This places Boyd County in the red category. According to KDE, when a county is in red status, the guidance states there is a “critical and substantial community transmission” concern.

After consultation with Health Department, beginning Monday, November 16th, all BCPS in-person/NTI (traditional) students will continue the NTI format through the end of the week on Friday, November 20th.  The following week, BCPS/Virtual Academy will be closed for Thanksgiving Break. NTI/Virtual Academy instruction WILL NOT take place during the week of November 23rd.  We will consult with our Health Department and hospital officials throughout the week of Thanksgiving and plan to have a determination of in-person instruction for the week of November 30th by Friday, November 27th.  Because we recognize the severe need for daycare in our community, the following BCPS daycares will be open during the upcoming week: ACT Kinder College, Little Friends, and Summit Elementary. If you have questions about our daycare programs, please call Dr. Denny (Kinder College) at 606-324-2280 or Mrs. Skiles (Summit/Little Friends) at 606-928-7118. Please note, Summit and Little Friends Daycare Centers will be closed during the week of November 23rd.  ACTC Kinder College will be open November 23rd - 25th and closed November 26th - 27th.

BCPS Food Service will continue the bus delivery schedule that was previously used to deliver meals to all students. There will be no drive-through meal pickups for BCPS Virtual Academy students during this time. They will be able to utilize the bus stop deliveries while all students are learning remotely.  If you were not previously on the bus route for meal delivery and would like to be added, please go to the district webpage, and click the link to sign up for this service. Please note there WILL NOT  be food delivery during the week of November 23rd.

We encourage our community to continue following recommended public health guidelines, including wearing a mask, frequent hand washing, and maintaining social distancing whenever possible. Please be aware of any symptoms of COVID-19, including fever, coughing, and shortness of breath. Additional symptoms may include runny nose, sore throat, nausea, a lack of appetite, loss of smell and taste, diarrhea, headache, and body aches. If these symptoms develop, please self-isolate and contact the health department.

We must all work together to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in our community. If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact your child’s school, the district office, or the Boyd County Health Department.

Stay Safe,
