Dear Boyd County Public Schools Families,
As you know, the BCPS Board of Education took action on September 29th to move forward with opening our schools to “traditional” students for in-person learning on October 12th and to continue providing the Virtual Academy platforms for students currently enrolled in that instructional option.
Our high school and middle school will implement a hybrid schedule (A/B format) with students attending Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday. Wednesday, and the other two days students are not in person, will be scheduled for at-home NTI learning.
Our elementary schools will be in person Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with Wednesday scheduled as at-home NTI learning.
The Boyd County Early Childhood Academy will implement a Monday-Friday schedule with student in person learning scheduled, daily, from 9:15 AM-1:50 PM.
Specific school information was sent out via IC caller and our social media platforms on Wednesday. If you did not receive this information, you may find the information on our webpage or by clicking the link below. I have also attached information about busing. If you have specific questions, please contact your child’s school or the transportation department at 606-928-7124.

During in person learning, our students and staff will do our best to follow the local health department, Kentucky Department of Public Health, and CDC guidelines and protocols. This will include the wearing of masks by all students and staff, social distancing, and cleaning and sanitizing when necessary.
As these guidelines and protocols change frequently, I want to update you on one change that I confirmed with our local health department Wednesday evening. This change comes in the area of face coverings. We will no longer be permitted to wear “neck gaiters” in place of a mask. All students and staff must wear a mask when they are inside the buildings. Please be sure to notify your child of this change before they return to school on Monday.
I want to caution parents/caregivers to have a plan in place in case of intermittent closures due to possible county “red” status, local/school COVID 19 cases, quarantine issues, etc. As we move forward, please consider each day to be fluid. I will try to make school closing decisions as early as possible. However, oftentimes, it is impossible to know all of the necessary information until early in the morning. Please have a plan in place for your child if school is closed.
As always, I encourage you to make the return to in-person learning, or continuation of virtual academy learning, as positive as possible for your child (ren). On behalf of the BCPS Board of Education, I appreciate all that you do in assisting Boyd County Public Schools in educating your child.
