Superintendent Letter to BCPS Families (Test-To-Stay) Oct. 22, 2021

October 22, 2021

Dear BCPS Families,

Boyd County Public Schools has partnered with Ethos Laboratories to provide a Test-to-Stay program for both staff and students identified as a close contact school exposure during COVID-19 contact tracing. This VOLUNTARY program will allow unvaccinated students and staff to stay in school, not be required to quarantine, and participate in school activities.

If a student or staff member is identified as a close contact, and asymptomatic, he or she will not be required to quarantine from school if parents/guardians give permission for the student to be tested at the identified testing center for COVID-19 for five (5) consecutive days (not including weekends) using a rapid test. Students and staff may remain at school each day as long as the daily test returns a negative result. If a positive test occurs, the student or staff member will need to isolate at home according to guidelines. This program is OPTIONAL and is offered at NO COST to participants.

This VOLUNTARY program is offered to students and staff in an attempt to reduce the number of quarantined students and staff. Students will only be tested with parent/guardian permission. If interested, you must create an account and register your students at:

We are pleased to offer two testing sites for ALL BCPS students and staff.  One will be located at the old ECLC-North Building behind Central Office (1104 Bob McCullough Drive, Ashland, KY 41102). The other will be located at Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in Catlettsburg, KY (3265 Oakland Avenue, Catlettsburg, KY 41129).  Parents must transport their students to the testing site and wait 15-20 minutes to obtain the results of the rapid test.  Parents, students, and staff members will need to stay in the parking lot for testing.  Ethos Labs will have their staff members on hand to conduct testing from 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. each school day. If a student or staff member tests positive, Ethos Lab will then perform a PCR test to confirm the positive test. If a student or staff member tests negative, they may go on to school.

To be eligible for the Test to Stay Program, parents must register their students BEFORE they show up to test. Students will NOT be tested if parents have not created an account and registered their students at  For questions, call 606-928-4141.
