Parents & Guardians,
We wanted to make you aware of the exclusion criteria we are using to send students home during the COVID-19 pandemic. This list comes from the latest “Healthy at School” document provided by the Kentucky Department of Education and the latest list of symptoms of COVID-19 in children from the Centers for Disease Control website. These symptoms are:
_____Fever greater than 100.4 or chills
_____Cough
_____Vomiting/Diarrhea
_____New Rash
_____Exposure to a positive COVID-19 case within a 48-hour period before onset of symptoms until meeting criteria for discontinuing home isolation. Contact health department for guidance.
_____Nasal congestion or runny nose
_____New loss of taste or smell
_____Sore throat
_____Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
_____Nausea
_____Stomachache
_____Tiredness
_____Headache
_____Muscle or body aches
Out of an abundance of caution, we are sending students home who exhibit any of these symptoms. Your child may return to school once they have been fever and/or symptom free for 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing medication) OR they have received an alternate diagnosis and received a release to return to school from their healthcare provider.
**If your child was positive for COVID-19, the health department will need to release your child to return to school.
**If your child is COVID-19 tested for any reason, they will need to remain out of school until their results are back and we are provided a copy of their negative results or release from their healthcare provider.
**If an immediate family member (living in the same household with a student) is being tested, please keep your student home until the family member tests negative. If the family member is positive, you will need to follow the direction of the health department regarding quarantine.
**If your child has been instructed to quarantine by the health department due to a COVID-19 exposure, they must complete their health department quarantine, even if they test negative. When they return, please provide a copy of the letter from the health department stating the date their quarantine is completed.
Thank you for your cooperation as we try to keep our students and staff safe and healthy.
