6th Grade Reading & Culture/Societies (Social Studies)
My name is Mrs. Linda Hoffman and I wanted to tell you a little about myself on a personal level. I have been in this area for over 35 years, originally from Ohio. I was born in Kankakee, IL and then moved to Ohio when I was about 3 years old. I went to school in Johnstown, Ohio (45 minutes northeast of Columbus). After graduation I attended Kentucky Christian College (University) in Grayson, then Ohio University. I completed my masters level education at Morehead State in Middle School.
I have been married for 38 years to Steve Hoffman (a native of Boyd County) who works and teaches at Kentucky Christian University. I have three grown children (Amie Schwendeman 35, Kelli Laughman 33 and Jonathan Hoffman 21). I have 5 adorable grandsons. I absolutely adore my grandchildren (Christian is 16, Nathan is 14, Ty is 9, Levi is 8 and Toby is 2.) I love to read, write and GOODWILL/thrift shop.
I am very active in my church (Bridges Christian Church in Russell, Ky), have been instrumental in working with a jail ministry (at BCDC) for the last 5 years. As an extention from that ministry, I teach a class entitled NEW DIRECTIONS (one team of one of five teachers) each Tuesday & I am on the Board of Directors of the BRIDGE OF HOPE transitional house for women learning to live a drug-free life.
I have been teaching at the Boyd County Middle School for 22 years. I love my job, I love teaching, and helping students establish a lifelong love of reading. I am very honored to have your children as my students and appreciate the opportunity you have entrusted me. I want this first year at BCMS be the best year possible for your child, and am willing to help facilitate that for them.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
I also sponsor the Bible Club at BCMS (along with Mrs. Copley & Mrs. Parsons), it is called Genesis. We encourage all 6th, 7th and 8th graders to be involved in this. We meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month from 3:30 - 5:00 PM. If you are interested in this activity for your child, please have them fill out an application & return it to one of us (You will find an application attached or outside the main office). My desire is to provide an opportunity for students to fellowship with each other, serve the community and have a more intimate relationship with God.
Each day you should receive an email stating what your child did in each classroom and homework expectations. Please let us know your email address if you have not already. The best way you can communicate with me is through the email. You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will get back to you. If you would like to call me, call the school at 928-9547 Extention 136. I believe when parents and teachers work together, our students will benefit. I am looking forward to working with you and having a great year in 2014-2015.
