A Reading Message to Families

Dear Families,
You will notice your child has been assigned a “fluency poem” to read each evening. Research proves repeated readings help build fluency, or the ability to read words and passages effortlessly so that they will be able to focus on comprehension.  Please support your child’s fluency development by having them read their fluency poem and vocabulary words each evening. The rubric or criteria I look for when they practice the poem in class is:
1)do they know the words
2)do they read the poem with rhythm or to a beat
3)do they use expression
In class I model these three components for the students and you can do the same at home! For this week’s poem performance we will recite “Spiders” for the daycare class. Encourage your child to be ready!  If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at:                              stephanie.mullins@boyd.kyschools.us
I also wanted to let you know I have created an online template of the assignment sheet to keep posted on my webpage. There will also be a link to the spelling list there, just in case you need it. My webpage URL is:

Thank you for all of your support and keep your child reading!
