Attendance: Please try to keep your child in school. Learning involves the use of hands-on materials, so the work missed cannot be sent home. If absences are necessary, please send a note with your child on the day he/she returns to school. Head Start requires a written excuse.
Greeting: We will begin greeting at 7:40 a.m. The doors to the school will be open at 7:30 each day. Any child arriving after 8:00 a.m. will be considered tardy. Dismissal will be at 2:00 p.m. for pickups and 2:15 p.m. for bus riders.
Papers: Papers and notes will be sent home almost daily in the backpack. A folder will be kept in your child’s backpack to hold these. If you need to send me a note, please put it in the folder as I check these each morning. Please send the backpack and the folder everyday! Your child will not be bringing home a lot of schoolwork. Many of the classroom materials and activities are hands-on and process-oriented.
Busing: Please be sure bus tags are attached to all backpacks – VERY IMPORTANT!
Administering Medication: When necessary for school staff to administer medication to your child while at school, the law requires written instructions. The medicine must be in prescription form. No medication can be sent with the child on the bus.
Clothing: Your child should wear comfortable play clothes. The children will have outdoor activities, so be sure they have outerwear for the weather. Accidents do happen. Please put an extra set of clothing in a zip lock bag in the backpack. It will be kept at school for accidents. I will send the bag home occasionally to keep the clothing appropriate for the changes in the weather.
Field Trips: Field trips are dependent on financial contributions. If you are interested in helping to sponsor a field trip, please let me know. A notice will be sent home telling you of our planned field trip. You are always welcome to come with us. Younger siblings are not permitted to ride on the bus due to insurance specifications.
Class Parties: We will have several holiday parties this year. If you would like to help, please let us know.
Birthdays: We love to participate in wishing your child a happy birthday! Parents are welcome to bring a special store bought birthday treat on their child’s birthday. Summer birthdays may be celebrated on their ½ birthday!
Snow Days: Please tune in to your local TV for radio station to determine if we will be closed due to the weather. We will be following the Boyd County school schedule.
Personal Toys: Many times children have favorite toys and belongings that they like to show. However, toys are easily lost and broken, so we ask that you please do not send toys to school. We will have special days for sharing during the year. We will let you know in advance.
Families: Families are invited to share their special skills, talents, interests, and cultures with the children. Families are invited to volunteer at any time. It is so important that you take an active part in showing your child that you support and are interested in his/her school. They love to show you off to their friends. Please take note of the volunteer training being offered.
Kid’s Boosters: Family/teacher organization that meets each month to discuss and plan upcoming events for the school year.
Parent Committee Meetings: These meetings are scheduled throughout the year. All parents are welcome to come and give input for activities that are being planned for the classroom.
Donations: We use large quantities of paper towels, antibacterial liquid soap, tissues, baby wipes (unscented), batteries, and small and large zip lock bags throughout the year. Donations of these items are appreciated. If you are interested in helping support our pet needs or our field trip expenses please let us know.
