Homework Policy

Welcome to the homework page!  I strongly believe in nightly homework Monday-Thursday, when it is matched to student skill level and of a reasonable amount.  In my classroom, homework is assigned for two purposes:
  1. To practice and reinforce the skills and concepts we are learning at school-A little practice each evening goes a long way when compiled over the course of a year!  While some assignments may prove to be mildly challenging, your child will only be asked to complete homework assignments over concepts we have covered in class and is never meant to be a cause for excessive stress or frustration.  For this reason I ask that you write and let me know anytime your child displays extreme difficulty with an assignment so I can do a reteach session with them.  Please be proactive in supporting the homework policy, ensuring your child completes and returns daily assignments.  If for some reason your child does not complete their assigned work, Ponderosa has a daily work room available during recess where they can complete the missed assignment.

  1. To build responsibility and a commitment to education-The act of keeping up with daily homework can help build the qualities of a successful student!  In addition, homework can be an enjoyable bonding time for families when approached positively!  Not only can caregivers feel empowered knowing what their child is learning each day, children will feel loved knowing you care!  Beyond that, the goal for every student in Boyd County Public Schools is to be college and career ready!  When students have grown up with healthy homework habits they are more likely to have the drive and discipline needed to be an independent learner and/or employee.
Please feel free to contact me with any homework questions/concerns!  The following link from the U.S. Department of Education is a great resource for any parent/caregiver who is interested in helping their child make the most of daily homework:  www2.ed.gov/parents/academic/help/homework/index.html
