Community Connections/Helpers Pics.

This page is dedicated to all the community helpers we have met this year.  Several members of our community have been gracious enough to take the time to come and talk to our students about their role in our community.   We thank you for sharing with us and for your service to our community!

On Friday we were thrilled to have Mr. Charles Rutledge, Kentucky Department of Education rep. and recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, come visit our classroom for a special mathematics lesson in number and reasoning!  Mr. Rutledge picked our class to conduct some action research on a new way to teach for learning using a new format called FAL which stands for Formative Assessment Lesson.  We really had to use our noodles to solve the tasks Mr. Rutledge presented us with, but we felt so good when we did!  He was very impressed with our little math geniuses and is planning on coming back to work with us again next month!

On Friday we welcomed Miss Barb, a dental hygienist for Dr. Mullins and grandmother of Jake.  She taught the students how to make a healthy snowman-on-a-stick snack using ingredients that won't damage their teeth including fruit, pretzels, and carrots.  As you can see the students thoroughly enjoyed the making and eating of the snack!  She also talked to us about the importance of keeping our teeth and mouths healthy.  To illustrate she showed us how to correctly brush and floss our teeth!  She also showed us x-rays of healthy teeth and pictures of teeth that had not been properly cared for.  Both were really cool to look at!  The students sure had lots of questions for her but she was very patient with us! Thank you Miss Barb, we appreciate you!
