Welcome to third grade! I want to take this time to let you know how excited I am to have your child in my class. This year we will be learning a lot. I believe students learn best by doing and being an active participant during lessons. We will do lots of activities that will hopefully keep students engaged throughout the school day.
We will have daily Spelling, Reading, and Math homework. I do not give homework on Friday. Students will be given some time in class to complete homework. To help keep students organized I would suggest that they have only one folder. One side should be labeled school for anything that needs to come back to school. The other side should be labeled home for notes or graded papers that will stay home. Please clean out the home side nightly.
Students will be given a weekly assignment sheet. This sheet is to be signed nightly and is a way for you and I to communicate. I do not punish students for not having it signed but I do give Skittles when they do have it signed.
We also do Cursive, English, Science, and Social Studies but this work will be considered classwork. It would be very rare to have any of those subjects as homework.
Students will be keeping a Data Notebook in which they will keep track of their test scores, behavior, and AR points. On the last day of each month students will be bringing their Behavior Chart home and it is to be signed and returned the next school day.
I will allow students to bring water bottles to school. They are allowed to drink water only throughout the day. Please make sure that it is labeled water and has their name on it per. Health Dept. rules. I am also going to allow students to bring a small healthy snack for snacktime around 10:00.

Students may bring in a healthy snack daily. Donations of snacks for those who may forget would be much appreciated.
