Music Appreciation Syllabus

The purpose of this class is to develop an understanding of the basic elements of music as well as an appreciation for all styles and cultures of music.

Classroom Needs:
Students are expecected to have a 3 ring binder or pocket fold and highlighter for class. 

The curriculum that will be studied during the nine-week perios is as follows:
  • Musical time periods and their characteristics.
               >Middle Ages
              >Renaissance   
              >Baroque
              >Classical
              >Romantic
              >Twentieth Century
             
  • Relationships between different musical styles.
  • Composers and their compositions.
  • Musical terms.
  • Musical instruments.
     
All class work will be completed during class unless student is absent.  Students will be expected to take notes and participate daily in class discussions.  All notes and class work is to be kept in Music Appreciation spiral notebook. 
Students will be evaluated daily and weekly, with written quizzes, entrance and exit slips, open response questions, and class projects.

Announcements
  • Classroom Tests

    If students recieve a 69% or lower on their weekly vocabulary test, they may retake the test before the following Wednesday.  The students will need to let me know if they plan on retaking the test.  I will not seek them out for re-takes.
    We will continue to have vocabulary test every Friday.
