Class Ukulele Syllabus
Each student will have access to a ukulele during their class period, which lasts nine weeks. The curriculum that will be studied during the nine week period is as follows:
- Music Theory - staff, lines, spaces, note values, time signatures, meter, tempo and rhythm.
- Ukulele introduction and instruction.
- Daily lessons with individualized instruction.
The above syllabus seems very brief but in all reality can be extremely difficult. Since each student receives an individual lesson, the amount of material covered varies greatly among students. The goal that I have set for most students is to learn 3 main chords and notes on the ukulele.
Each student is evaluated on a daily basis. Students must achieve each new concept before they can progress to the next step. The student is evaluated through playing, written and oral quizzes on covered material.
This class will be completed solely at school. Some students may wish to practice at home, but all students will have access to a ukulele daily. Please understand that these instruments were purchased with school funds, if a student purposely breaks or destroys one, it will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to replace the instrument.
If your student has a ukulele at home, they may bring their instrument from home to class for their own use.
