8th Grade American Music is a nine week long course designed to expose middle school students to a variety of American Music. The purpose of this class is for students to gain knowledge about and form and appreciation for various kinds of music and recognize their historical value to humanity.
Students will need a three ring binder (or pocket folder), loose leaf paper and a pen or pencil. The binder/folder will stay in my room for the entire 9 weeks.
We will study American music beginning in the late 1800’s through the 1980’s. Our studies will focus on Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Rock and Roll and early Rock music. Students will be expected to complete units of study of these genres as a class and also be assigned small group projects to be completed in class.
All class work will be completed during class unless the student is absent. Students will be expected to take notes and participate daily in class discussions. Students will be evaluated daily and weekly, with written quizzes, entrance and exit slips and class projects.
