The goal in our class is to communicate the knowledge, ideas, and feelings that we have in a clear way so we can be understood by those around us. Each student in my class works on the particular area of communication that they need to improve . Some of these areas may be: Vocabulary, receptive (what you understand when you receive information) or expressive (lhow you put sounds and words together to explain thoughts) language skills, articulation (speech sounds), grammar skills, voice and fluency skills.
- What Has Been Happening
During speech and language class this month we will be talking about one of my favorite holidays, Christmas. We will be busy talking about how families celebrate Christmas in different ways. We will be thinking and sharing about those that we would like to give presents to this Christmas and where we would find the different types of gifts we would like to give. We will also make an acrostic using the word CHRISTMAS. It is a short but busy 3 weeks until our Christmas break.
- Monthly Tip
Another tip that will help your child become a better communicator is slowing down their rate when talking. Talk with them about not rushing when sharing their thoughts with others. Explain that when they rush their ideas are not understood by the listener. Share with them to them speak slowly and loud enough to be heard when answering questions, asking questions, and when telling stories.
