Lion Proud: Assessment Scores Released

PROFICIENCY AND BEYOND

BOYD COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

The Boyd County Public School District is pleased and encouraged by the test results that were released today.  We are delighted that that our school district continues to be classified as Proficient, based on the current state assessment and accountability system.

The overall test scores show that Boyd County students from all economic, race, ethnicity and diverse backgrounds are growing and making progress toward graduating high school college-and-career ready.  However, the results we see are directly attributed to the dedication and determination of our staff, parents, and community members across the school district. When school districts focus on shared leadership and provide the support, resources and professional learning opportunities that teachers need, students achieve at high levels.

Other individual schools also received honorable classifications:

  • Boyd County Middle School- Proficient/Progressing
  • Catlettsburg- Proficient
  • Ponderosa- Distinguished/Progressing/School of Distinction
  • Summit- Proficient

The Boyd County School District is very happy with the progress that our students are making, but we are just in the beginning stages of our work.  Plans for continuous improvement in the future include work with Advance Kentucky to increase rigor through Pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement classes at Boyd County Middle School and Boyd County High School.   Advance Kentucky involves content-rich teacher training and extensive support and incentives for students and teachers for achieving qualifying scores on Advanced Placement (AP) exams in math, science and English in an open enrollment environment.  To further increase student achievement, the district continues to emphasize instructional transformation through the implementation of Kentucky’s Core Academic Standards (focusing on LDC and MDC work as a driving force), building capacity through teacher leadership, increasing assessment literacy, and providing teachers with meaningful professional learning opportunities.  In addition, literacy and math coaches are receiving training on effective coaching techniques that will provide teacher support in the areas of formative assessment, student engagement, differentiation, and effective design of authentic learning experiences.  These improvement practices will be the avenue for moving Boyd County Public Schools beyond proficiency.  To us, proficiency is just the starting place.  Our goal is to truly provide a rich educational experience for all students.

We are proud of our Lions!  Together, let’s continue to strive for Distinguished!
