Because nutrition is such a vital part of the educational process, Boyd County’s students are provided adequate and healthy meals to ensure their continued success. We all know that hungry children will not develop physically and they cannot learn those things they will need to know to contribute as citizens. School meals are planned to provide 1/3 of the recommended dietary allowances for school-age children. In Boyd County, the menus have been planned to include a variety of choices and changes have been made in food specifications and preparation to lower sodium, fat and sugar in school meals. Boyd County serves on the average of 2,709 lunches daily and 1,195 breakfasts each month.

Children from families who fall within the Federal Eligibility Income guidelines are eligible for free or reduced priced meal benefits. A family application is available in your school’s office and all school cafeterias or from the Boyd County Board of Education Office. Links are provided in the right hand column of this page if you would like to print them yourself. If your child qualifies for a free or reduced price meal, they also qualify free or reduced price books at the high school.

In addition to meals during the school year, we also provide a Summer Food Service Program at Summit Elementary cafeteria. This is a free breakfast or lunch to children ages 0 to 18. This program operates in the months of June and July. Details are provided at all schools.

Our staff consists of 7 managers, 24 cook/bakers, 6 custodians and 15 substitute cooks. Please stop in at any school and say hello to our friendly staff. Better yet, come in and have breakfast or lunch with your child. Parents are always welcome.
