Bills on Capitol Hill that KASA is monitoring

The Capitol Connection is an online newsletter produced by the Kentucky Association for School Administrators (KASA) an organization that keeps the school communities informed as to what bill are moving through the House and Senate that could affect public education.

There are several bills that are of interest. They are:

HB 520, the charter school legislation
HB 151, a bill allowing students to enroll in schools nearest their home
HB 162, a bill allowing tax credits for contributing to scholarships to allow students to attend private schools
HB 283, which would require some personal information about KTRS retirees to be made public

SB 20, a juvenile justice reform bill, is on the Senate floor
SB 50 has passed the Senate and is in the House education committee. This is the school calendar bill that shortens the school year as an incentive to begin at a later date

If you would like to contact your senators and representatives about these bills, please do so quickly.
