The Boyd County Foundation For Children, Inc. (BCFFC), has been selected as the Kentucky Music Educator's Association (KMEA) District 8 Friend of Music Award for the 2016-2017 school year. The award was created to honor those whose activities have demonstrated outstanding support for music education.
Each district within the KMEA nominates groups or individuals that are deserving of the award. Once nominations are closed, the membership of each district votes. There are twelve districts in the state of Kentucky. The membership of each district is made up of every music teacher from every specific discipline (band, choir, orchestra, and general music) and grade level (kindergarten through university). Each district award winner is then placed in the running for the KMEA State Friend of Music Award, which is decided on by the KMEA State Board.
"The Boyd County Foundation For Children, Inc. has been an outstanding supporter of music education in our district," said Boyd County High School Band Director and nominator of the organization, John Johnson . "Over the years they have provided grant money for several elementary school music projects, 2 concert band compositions, guitars for the new guitar program, and this year's district-wide elementary musical Schoolhouse Rock, just to name a few."
The President of the BCFFC, Marc Rosen, attended the November Board of Education meeting to receive the award from Mr. Johnson.
"The music educators in our district and the KMEA District 8 are both very excited to present this award to our friends at the Boyd County Foundation For Children," Johnson said at the presentation.
