Student Volunteer Opportunities

Are you looking for opportunities to volunteer?

Here are some ideas to help you get started!

  1. AARF
  • You must be at least 12 years of age to volunteer
  • They allow volunteers seven days a week
  • Time: 6:00 pm

  1. American Cancer Society
  • No specific age minimum
  • They allow volunteers on days of planned projects for example:  Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

  1.  American Heart Association
  • No specific age minimum
  • Volunteer at any time and any day
  • Go to their website to sign up and they will make a schedule to fit your needs
     
  1. Ashland Alliance
  • No specific age minimum
  • Volunteer at any time and any day but mainly need volunteers during the evening
  • Big event is the Winter Wonderland of Lights

  1. Ashland 1st United Methodist Church
  • Must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer
  • Volunteer any day after school in the preschool

  1. Ashland CAReS
  • Age requirement depends on the task assigned
  • Biggest need is at Christmas

  1. Boyd Nursing and Rehabilitation Center
  • You must be at least 13 years of age to volunteer
  • TB Skin Test and Background Check required for all volunteers
  • Volunteer any day from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm

  1. Cabell Huntington Hospital
  • All volunteers must complete this application
  • You must be in high school to volunteer
  • They allow volunteers Monday – Friday

  • No specific age minimum

  • You must be at least 13 years of age to volunteer

  1. Community Kitchen
  • You must be at least 14 years of age to volunteer and complete an application
  • They allow volunteers Monday – Friday
  • Times: Monday – Friday (11:30 am – 12:15 pm); Tuesday and Thursday (4:30 pm – 5:15 pm)

13. Highlands Museum & Discovery Center

  • You must be at least 12 years of age to volunteer
  • They allow volunteers Wednesday thru Saturday (10:00 am to 6:00 pm)

14.    Hope’s Place

  • You must be at least 18 years of age and go through a strict process to volunteer
  • They allow volunteers Monday – Friday
  • Times: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

15. King’s Daughter Medical Center

  • You must be 14 years of age by June 1
  • You must complete an application
  • Application must be completed and signed by the volunteer applicant and a parent/guardian and returned to the Volunteer Services Department
  •  Upon receipt of the application, Volunteer Services will send additional information to your parent/guardian with details of the application process
  •  All new teen volunteers accepted into the program, must be available to attend a mandatory orientation
  • Teens typically work one 4 hour shift per week, based upon the number of request we receive from various departments within the medical center. Teens accepted into the program are asked to commit to their assigned schedule and not miss more than one week.

16. Lawrence County Humane Society

  • No specific age minimum
  • They allow volunteers Monday – Friday
  • Volunteer at any time of the day

17. Neighbors Helping Neighbors

  • You must be at least 14 years of age to volunteer
  • They allow volunteers Monday – Friday
  • Times: 8:30 am – 5:30 pm

18. Oakmont Manor

  • You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer
  • They allow volunteers Monday – Friday
  • Times: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

19.  Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital

  • You must be at least 13 years of age to volunteer
  • TB Skin Test required for all volunteers
  • They allow volunteers Monday – Friday
  • Volunteer at any time of the day

20. Paramount Arts Center

  • You must be at least 16 years of age to be an usher
  • You must be at least 13 years of age to hand out programs
  • They allow volunteers seven days a week
  • Times vary

21. River Cities Harvest

  • No specific age minimum
  • They allow volunteers seven days a week

22. Ronald McDonald House

  • No specific age minimum
  • You must complete an application
  • They allow volunteers seven days a week
  • Times: (9:00 am – 12:00 pm)  (12:00 pm – 3:00 pm)  (3:00 pm – 6:00 pm)

24.  Salvation Army

  • No specific age minimum

25. Shelter of Hope

  • No specific age minimum but if you are under the age of 18, you must have parental consent
  • They allow volunteers seven days a week
  • Times: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

26. St. Mary’s Hospital

  • You must be in high school – ages 14-18
  • You must complete an application

27. Two Hearts Pregnancy Center

  • No specific age minimum except you must be 18 years of age to be a counselor
  • They allow volunteers Monday -
    Thursday (9:00 am – 4:30 pm)

28. United Way

  • You must be at least 13 years of age to volunteer
