Boyd County Schools Set To Participate In "Be the HERO; STOP the Bullying!" Campaign

Boyd County Public Schools, in partnership with the Kentucky Center for School Safety and the district’s Family Resource/Youth Service Centers, are proud to announce their participation in Kentucky Safe Schools Week, to be held the week of October 17th-23rd, 2016.

This year's theme of “Be the HERO; STOP the Bullying!” focuses on everyday heroes, their roles in our lives and how each individual needs to step up and "Be the HERO" when the opportunities arise both in school and in life. “Honor, Encourage, Respect, and Opportunity” will be the powerful words emphasized in the campaign which is focused on empowering students to choose to be a HERO in an effort to make BCPS safe and bully-free. Being a HERO isn't just a label for a time; it's an attitude and a code to live by.

In an effort to bring awareness to our shared commitment to the “Be the HERO; STOP the Bullying!,” Boyd County Public Schools has created the following activities to commemorate the week:

  • Superintendent Walter will sign and read the “Be the HERO; STOP the Bullying!” proclamation.
  • All students will be provided with multiple opportunities throughout the week to take the hero pledge, located online at http://www.kycss.org/heropledge.php.
  • All elementary students will receive a copy of the Shriners “Guide to Anti-Bullying,” and a “Be the HERO; STOP the Bullying!” bookmark.
  • All middle and high school students will have the opportunity to sign an anti-bullying banner at each school.
  • Informational tables will be set up at the Boyd County Middle School’s Data Night, scheduled for October 20th, and at the Ponderosa Elementary’s Walk-A-Thon, to be held on October 21st.

We challenge you to join us in signing the online pledge and help us keep Boyd County Public Schools and our surrounding community safe and bully-free.
