Students of Billy Parker, BCHS instructor, traveled to Morehead State University to compete in the National History Day competition. All of the students qualified to go on to the state finals. Advanced Welding winners in the SkillsUSA competition are, from left to right:  Payton Marcum - 1st place; Ryan Hicks - 3rd place; and Marco Kitts - 2nd place. Nominees and the February winner of the Fred of the Month Award were recognized at the February 28th Board of Education meeting. Ms. Coleman is an Exceptional Child Instructor at Boyd County Middle. Dr. Judy Nichols is recognized for successfully completing levels II and III of the KY School Board Association's Academy of Studies during the 2016 calendar year. Honored at the board meeting for encouraging or being chosen to perform in the KMEA All-State choirs are, left to right, Aaron Bowling - music instructor at BCHS and Catlettsburg; BCHS student Christian Trimble; Summit music instructor Cynthia Sullivan, Malichi Gillum - Children's All-State Choir; BCMS music instructor Melissa Downey, and Emma Dalton - Junior High All-State Choir. Not pictured: April Stinson (BCHS - High School All-State Choir) and Junior High All-State Choir members Sarah Slone and Adrian McDaniels. Alison Bays, on the left, and Kelly Deborde, on the right, were two of the district counselors recognized at the February board meeting. Boyd County Lions win against Ashland to clinch the 64th District Champions title for the fourth year in a row. GO LIONS! Dr. Patricia Parker-Perry, center, from the Sandy Hook Promise project, gives examples to her student volunteers as to how easy it really is to "Start With Hello." Mrs. Baldwin, at center, is shown here receiving the Kentucky Department of Education's Presidential Award at the KEDC meeting on February 15th, 2017. To her left is BCHS Principal Thomas Holbrook and to her right is BCPS Superintendent Brock Walter. Winners in the Physics and Astronomy category proudly hold their certificates. Second from left is Boyd County Middle student Brayden Ryan. Next to him BCMS student Michael Potter. They both won 2nd place in the category. Winners in the ACTC/FIVCO Science and Engineering Fair. At left, Boyd County's Abby Christian and Sarah Kinnel hold their 3rd place certificates. Sixth graders who participated in the ACTC/FICO Science and Engineering Fair. Sixth graders Sydney Kinnel and Abby Christian  earned 3rd place at the ACTC/FIVCO Science Fair. Michael Potter and Brayden Ryan, both 6th graders, won 2nd place with their Science and Engineering project at the ACTC/FIVCO Science Fair. Their project was called The Bed of Nails. Pep band members add excitement to the games. Boyd County Swim Team. Sparkle Effect team! Commissioner Pruitt recognizes Boyd County Schools for their commitment to Teacher Leadership.
